Money in Real Terms

About

Money in Real Terms is a lightweight, statically generated website for estimating inflation-driven purchasing power changes using CPI (consumer price index) ratios. It’s designed to be fast, transparent, and easy to extend with local CPI datasets.

What the calculator shows

Given an amount and two years, the calculator estimates the inflation-adjusted equivalent amount in the end year, the implied shortfall due to inflation, and the cumulative inflation factor. Results stay in the same currency and do not include exchange rates, wages, interest, or investment returns.

Data and sources

CPI series are stored locally as JSON files under /data/cpi, and each country entry includes a source name and URL. See Sources and Methodology for details.

Limitations

CPI is an average index. Your personal inflation experience can differ based on spending categories and region. Treat results as estimates for comparison and context, not financial advice.
